So who ‘s all set for Christmas? I had everything planned out at the beginning of the month and have done pretty well, but I still have a mountain of gifts to wrap, which by the time Aiden has gone to bed I’m too tired to attempt. Also, there’s the Christmas food shop to sort. I was pretty quick at booking our delivery slot, but currently in the basket is the 25 bottles of ginger beer that I added to secure the slot – I don’t think that would do for Christmas dinner.
On the other hand, I have been pottering in the kitchen and creating some festive nibbles for when friends and family come to visit. These marinated olives with chilli, thyme, and orange are a perfect savoury option to serve up to any guests that may pop by.
In fact, I think these olives would also look great in a glass preserving jar with a ribbon tied around the top and a handwritten brown label to give as a gift. Such a lovely idea if you’re stuck for a gift idea for someone or rapidly running out of time. A homemade gift is a lovely personal touch and a bonus if it’s edible too. I used Fragata’s Spanish Black Pitted Olives because I loved the contrast against the bright orange peel, however, green olives would work just as well too.
These marinated olives with chilli, thyme, and orange are a perfect savoury option to serve up to any guests that may pop by.
- 250 g Fragata Pitted Black Olives
- 8 cloves of Fragata Garlic Cloves
- 3 Fragata Spanish Hot Peppers guindillas sliced
- 250 ml good quality olive oil
- Slivers of orange peel from 1 orange
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme
Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl until well combined.
Store in an airtight jar and use as necessary.
Additionally, these would be a fantastic addition to a New Year’s party spread. Yes, I realise that we haven’t even got Christmas out of the way yet, but it’s always good to think ahead. Just think, a glass of bubbly in one hand and these olives in the other. The chillies give a mild hint of heat and the thyme lends a beautiful earthiness to the olives that works with their natural saltiness. I’m a massive olive fan and think these have a certain festive appeal about them with the inclusion of the orange peel.
